Our May quiz has taken on a bit of a twist! Instead of the usual Q&A, we’re asking our coaches to take a #fridgeselfie and show us what they’ve got stocked up, and why! First up is Coach Alex …
I must admit I was a bit dubious about this – I thought about clearing it out and restocking for the purpose of the photo – but that wouldn’t be very honest of me, would it?! So here it is – a genuine ‘no holds barred’ look inside!
We’ve got coconut cream for my morning coffee, apple cider vinegar that I mix with lemon juice (I usually add some Himalayan pink salt and magnesium ascorbate powder to this too) in hot water before I have my coffee.
Blueberries, watercress, spinach and kale, sprouted lentils, (packed full of micronutrients and great in smoothies) carrots, cucumber, houmous, (I usually make carrot and cucumber batons for the kids to dunk) broccoli, mushrooms (packed full of zinc), peppers (my youngest is mental about peppers!) feta cheese, corn on the cob, more broccoli, lemons, more spinach. Yeo Valley yoghurt, innocent coconut water (so yummy and packed full of electrolytes) and finally some MEAT!
Streaky bacon (just prefer it) sausages, (the boys often have bacon and eggs or sausages for breakfast) 1kg of chicken breasts, and 2kg of grass fed braising steak ready to be slow cooked. I try to rotate my sources of animal protein often as they all have different amino acid profiles, and contribute different things. I buy all of my meat from Ian Chatfield Butchers (I wish I was sponsored by them – maybe next competition prep, Ian?!) it’s great quality, and in my opinion value for money.
