We are celebrating receiving a prestigious industry award which places The Strength & Conditioning Institute amongst the very best facilities in the whole of the country. The SCI has been named Functional Training Gym of the Year at the 2017 National Fitness Awards, which recognise excellence, innovation and achievement in the fitness sector across the UK.
The awards are organised by Script Events in conjunction with leading fitness industry magazine Workout, with support from ServiceSport. The SCI became the most successful business represented at the awards, when they were named finalists in five separate categories in the autumn.
Following the announcement of the shortlist, The SCI received a visit from the awards team, who interviewed directors, coaches and clients alike, as well as touring and inspecting the world-class facility. The judging panel, which included top personal trainer Richard Callender, fitness guru and former contestant on The Apprentice Katie Bulmer-Cooke and award-winning gym owner Steve Johnson, weighed up findings from the six finalists in each category, and agreed that: “Their professionalism and enthusiasm for fitness and functional training has not gone unnoticed. The SCI will certainly be ones to watch for the future – good luck and congratulations.”
Alongside the Functional Training Gym of the Year trophy, The SCI was also named runner up in the Customer Service category. National Fitness Awards’ event director Judith Halkerston said: “The club was praised by the judges for showing exceptional customer service, depth of knowledge and expertise.” She added: “I really like level of knowledge and support this team offered and feel this offers something very credible.”
Director and Head Coach at The SCI, Martin Shyvers, said: “Regaining the crown of Functional Training Gym of the Year, which we also held from 2015-16, tops off a truly phenomenal year for The SCI. Our award track record is growing every year, recommendations from delighted clients keep coming, and we’re continually making a tangible difference to people’s health in Kent – and far beyond.”
Fellow Director and Head Coach at The SCI, Alex Shoebridge, said: “The breadth of categories in which The SCI was a finalist for at this year’s National Fitness Awards was staggering, and a huge compliment to the business. We never rest on our laurels, and are continually honing not just the facility and our services, but our own professional development. We live by our mantra of being No Ordinary Gym, and we’re thrilled that the judges saw and appreciated this.”
